Day 10 in Cairns – Super Josephine Falls and Babinda Boulders

19 JUNE 2022

Whir…I heard a whirling noise. “What is it?” I wondered as I walked towards the sound. “Oh! It’s a helicopter!”

It was a bright and lovely morning. Clouds moseyed across the cerulean sky. What a start!

After a scrumptious breakfast, we skipped down the lane to an Aboriginal art exhibition. There were many astounding artworks created by Aboriginal people there. Most of them were painted on canvas but some of them were colored on boomerangs! (Refer to day 4) The artworks were so amazing that I just had to buy one!

Beautifully wrapped artwork

Next, we headed to JOSEPHINE FALLS… which is similar to Mossman Gorge, except that it has waterfalls! Like Mossman Gorge, it has a path surrounded by rocks with moss growing on them. Anyway, a picture is worth a thousand words, wouldn’t it be better if I just include a picture? So…

JOSEPHINE FALLS – PATH TO THE WATERFALL

Vines and trees…and…so many things! Don’t you think the rock above looks familiar? At the end of the path, there is a wonderful waterfall known as…JOSEPHINE FALLS! Splash! Splash!

Josephine Falls – Things to be Aware Of:

Think of this beautiful waterfall,

What does it consist of? Is it a natural waterfall?

And a million other questions,

Now I’m going to reveal the answers…of some questions.

Gushing water down the slope,

To which we know as Josephine Falls,

A brilliantly wonderful waterfall,

We know all around the globe,

Together we shall sing a merry tune at the sight of Josephine Falls!

But beware as fun as it is,

You must be careful,

Don’t be too playful,

And jump and play among the slippery rocks,

As one thing is true,

It’s not impossible for you to get an injury.

But don’t worry,

That seldom happens,

So just go there,

Have fun and enjoy!

Hopefully you’ve learnt something…

Now back to the story. I did not swim because I did not bring my swimsuit along and the currents were too strong. But it did look fun (and dangerous), especially the two natural water slides. Here are some tips if you want to slide down the water slides;

Be aware and slide down one at a time…

Sharp rocks!

Get ready for a big splash at the end!

Here’s a video on how Josephine Falls looks like.

Good times always past fast. Soon, it was time to leave for our next destination, the Golden Hole. The Golden Hole is a mysterious place…so I better not ruin the surprise, though I can still provide you with some information! Once you enter, the first thing you see is a big open grass field…search for the ‘golden hole’! But please look out for crocodiles (and crocodile signs – it is the clue to find the ‘golden hole’).

Next, we visited Babinda Boulders.

It is a park with many pools filled with cool icy water. (It rhymes!) An ideal spot for swimming…but be careful! The water is clear so you should be able to see what’s underneath…but, please be careful! There might be sharp or unexpected objects so I have prepared a video for you…I mean two videos.

Since we did not have much time left, I just waded in the pools. Tiny bits of sand got stuck in my toes as I waded along. It tickled! Soon after, it was time to return to our hotel to have a good night’s rest and to prepare for another adventure! What an eventful day!
