Day 5 – Kuranda and Atherton Tablelands

14 JUNE 2022

After breakfast, we petted, fed and groomed the horses, it is a great way to start the day.

Thereafter, we went to KURANDA KOALA GARDENS (Wildlife in the Rainforest). Kuranda Koala Gardens is one of the few places in Australia where visitors can actually hold a cuddly (and sharp clawed) Koala for a great souvenir photo. I wanted to take photos with a koala but my parents had some reservations, but it didn’t take long for me to convince them. Hence, I got my chance to take a photo with a young koala! She was furry, cute and cuddly, but her claws were really sharp. It pricked me whenever I tried to move, as it probably was afraid it might fall, but it was holding me so tight that I felt tinkling pain on my shoulders.

There were many other animals in Kuranda Kaola Gardens. For example, komodo dragons, frogs, snakes, kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and more koalas. The frogs’ moist(/slimy) green skin makes them look rather sticky. While the koalas’ soft grey fur makes them look cute and cuddly.

DID YOU KNOW?

Koalas were once found in eucalypt woodlands near Kuranda. They are one of the very few animals that can survive on a diet of eucalyptus leaves as they are toxic to most other animals.

We fed kangaroos and wallabies there, but…they were not THAT hungry. I think kangaroos and wallabies have furry noses, pretty similar to a horse’s nose!

After the amazing morning at KURANDA KOALA GARDENS, we went to Barron Falls. It was winter so there was not much water falling down the scenic water fall.

(PS: Only one water fall was functioning, in summer, both will be functioning)

Tinaroo Lake,

Was our destination next.

When we reached there,

What did we do?

We admired the view.

What did we see there?

We saw a nice calm lake

We call Tinaroo Lake

Many pictures for us to take

And that is Tinaroo Lake!

After the rather tiresome journey back to our hotel, my father lighted the campfire and I helped out too. I lit my first match. I threw it quickly into the fire once I lighted it. My daddy took a video of me lighting up that match, here it is:

What an amazing day!!!
